Prepositions of Time: In, On, and At Without Guessing

Think of time as a scale. In usually covers broad periods, on identifies days and dates, and at points to a precise time.

In: broader periods

• in September
• in 2026
• in winter
• in the morning

We also use in for a period from now: I’ll call you in ten minutes.

On: days and dates

• on Monday
• on 15 September
• on my birthday
• on Friday morning

At: precise points

• at 7:30
• at noon
• at midnight
• at night

No preposition

Normally use no in/on/at before last, next, this, every: next Monday, last week, this evening, every day.

At the end vs in the end

At the end = the final part of something. In the end = finally, after events or decisions.
